QUESTION:
What does the certificate holder mean on a certificate of liablity insurance form?
-
QUESTION:
If I am the certificate holder for a certificate of liability insurance, how does it help me?
-
ANSWER:
Sorry to previous posters but you're both wrong.
A certificate of insurance is proof of insurance (much like the ID card you keep in your car showing you have personal auto insurance except in this case the insured is not the one that has possession of it)
Certificates are usually issued to clients or other people your company does business with to show that you have insurance. The Certificate Holder is the person the certificate is made out to. I have several landscapers as clients and whenever they contract with a large business (like an apartment complex) the apartment will want to see proof of insurance so that if the landscaper causes damage while working they know that the landscaper's insurance will pay for it.
If you are just a certificate holder the main way it helps you is that it proves the party had insurance at the time it was issued and the certificate says they shall "endeavor" (fancy way of saying try) to let you know if the policy is cancelled for non-payment, however if they fail to let you know they aren't in any trouble.
Sometimes a certificate will name you as an additional insured. If you are an additional insured then if the landscaper from my above example is working for your business and a rock flies out from a lawn mower and hits a person and that person sues the landscaper and you then the landscaper's liability will extend to both of you. This is limited protection as it only applies to the actions of the actual insured (in this example the landscaper) and if you did anything to contribute to the accident then you are not covered. Additional insured are usually clients or lessors - if you lease your car then whoever your leasing it from is an additional insured on your auto policy since if you cause a wreck both you (for causing the wreck) and they (as owners of the car) could be sued - but your personal liability will pay for both. Commercial companies often charge an insured a fee to add someone as an additional insured.

QUESTION:
Green Card holder needs insurance for pregnancy?
I am a US citizen, my wife has a green card. We just moved to Atlanta GA. I am looking for a job right now, we do not have health insurance yet. We are concerned that we cannot add my wife to possible employers insurance because she is 5 months pregnant right now.
1. How can we have the baby without having to pay the full bill, and what if there are complications, hospital tries to take advantage with billing etc.
2. Do we have medical aid options? How can we find the right resources to find the answers, and if I have not found a job yet or my coverage does not cover her b/c they would consider it a preexisting condition.
Please help. Last resort would be that we return home to South Africa but we run into problems with getting our baby a green card, and if anybody knows how Africa works it takes a long time and is expensive. We would have been here a long time ago if it had not been for the incompetency of the African system. Side note(They lost 1st immigration paperwork, 2nd attempt they notified me of my death certificate, and I am not making this up, 3rd attempt they finally got it right but we have to pay money on every attempt-i'm sure their system is messed and not fixed b/c they like to take peoples money)
Please help us avoid having to go back and deal with the headaches over there....

QUESTION:
Does Policy Holder Need To Be Present When Adding A Named Driver (UK)?
This is for UK insurance.
Does the person who holds the policy need to be there to speak on the phone when adding a named driver or can the prospective named driver add themselves to their fathers insurance policy without the need to involve the policy holder, I'm hoping to add myself to my dads insurance to drive his car as he is out of the country for 6 weeks out of every 8. Also would i be better contacting the insurance company to do this or should i speak to the broker through which the insurance was obtained. I do have his permission to do this by the way, its just with the time difference its hard for him to contact the insurers directly, I am also in possession of his certificate of insurance if this helps.
Cheers people

QUESTION:
Income tax question about check from insurance (mutual fund) company?
I received a stock certificate from an insurance company about 5 years ago. The insurance was a type of ownership by the participants and the company was sold and the value was distributed to the holders of the policies in the form of stock in the purchasing company. I am assuming it was a form of mutual fund that was disbursed. I recently sold the stock and have no idea of how to determine the cost basis of the stock. The current company can only tell me the value of the stock on the day it was issued (I don't know the date) but not how much I invested previously. As hard as I have tried I cannot find any information on the previous company or have any idea as to what to do. I certainly don't want to pay taxes on the entire amont I sold the stock for but don't know how to determine a cost basis and don't want to get audited and not have answers as to how I determined exactly how much tax I owe.
What should I do, how can I determine the cost basis to file my taxes?

QUESTION:
Am I insured to drive other cars as a named driver on my wife's insurance policy?
The certificate states that "The Insured and Spouse (Myself named)" are covered. But then under the section that talks about driving other cars the document says "Policy holder" can drive other cars with the permisson of the owner.....#!?@%&$@!

QUESTION:
How do we transfer the ownership of life insurance policy into our name?
Many years ago my mom took out an insurance policy on me when I was a child. Although both parents were then married and remained so until her death, hers was the only name listed as policy holder. Since this was an asset, her interest in the policy in her name but covering me, should go to remaining heirs, namely myself and my dad but the insurace company wont change the name to reflect dad or myself or both as policy holder. They keep accepting out payments though and it looks as if a deceased woman has the policy. How do we go about getting them to change the name of the policy holder? Death certificates have already been sent to no avail.
We have been to an attorney who has sent multiple requests and documetnation and nothing has been changed. The form one person suggested we fill out cant be filled out by ALL parties because one is dead; thus the problem in the first place. Seemingly dad and I have already filled out a like form to no avail. Since mom owned only a certain amount of personal property individually and she was without a will ( I dont recall the amount Indiana's limit is) it wasnt necessary for the "estate" to go through probate for her share of belongings to be disbursed according to our attorney; it all went to dad. Therefore there is technically no trustee to the estate. If dad is considered to be the acting trustee then again, this should already have long since been cleared up. Another person suggested we ask why they wont change it; we have. Only the policy holder can do that and the NAMED policy holder is dead. Much like a dog chasing its tail we arent getting anywhere.

QUESTION:
V5C Sec 10 & Insurance Policy?
1) I just bought a used car few days ago ... the dealer handed over to me V5C section 10 .. its blank should I write my details in it or just leave it blank .. as i need to send a copy of it for parking permit ...
2) And will I be registered owner and keeper of the car upon getting the new V5C from dvla .. or was the dealer suppose to give me any other documents too as i only got section10 of v5c and a MOT certificate which was on previous owner's name ...
3) Also Just got insurance policy, the policy holder name is my initials but it does has my full name in entitled to drive section ... should i return them for adding my full name to Policy holder name ?
Thanks
-
ANSWER:
Section 10 is the "new keeper supplement", and should have your name and address on it. Write it in. The dealer advises DVLA that you are the new keeper and you should automatically receive a new V5 in your name shortly, probably in a couple of weeks.
The MoT certificate is not in any keeper's name, it relates to the vehicle and has no relationship to whoever the owner or keeper is; it goes with the vehicle. As long as it is valid you're fine. If what you're looking at has someone's name on it, it's probably the bill for the test, not the certificate . . .
I'd ring your insurers and point out what you've noticed about your documents. See what they say. In the meantime you'll have no problem as you're named as the driver.

QUESTION:
Can I get plates on a car that is not titled to me?
My father passed away without a will in Michigan. I live in New York. I tried to get as much done as I could when I was there but I didn't think it was necessary to be declared the executor of his estate. He had 2 motorcycles, a truck, and 0 in his checking account. So, not much of an estate.
I am my father's only child, and he divorced my mom almost 26 years ago, and then lived with his long term girlfriend for 24 years. I signed the 2 motorcycles over to his girlfriend without a problem. I had to take the titles to the Secretary of State and produce his death certificate and my birth certificate proving I am his daughter.
His truck however is a different story because there is a lien on it. He had only 3 payments left. Now I'm back in New York, and I kept the truck and was told that I could transfer it into my name with an affidavit, lien and all. In Michigan, your plates expire on your birthday each year which is July 25 for my father. Also, his insurance expires on that date as well.
I'm worried about any trouble I might have with the financing company because they told me that I could not get any information on his account without a letter signed form a probate judge declaring that I am handling all of my father's affairs. I then called probate and was told about the affidavit which would change the title to my name with the lien on it.
I've already sent a payment to the lien holder with my father's account number on it, but I'm not sure if they will accept it seeing as I've already reported him deceased.
Once the title is in my name, they have to give the information to me won't they? I'm so confused.
In the meantime, can I get my own plates on the truck and insure it even though my name isn't on the title yet?
-
ANSWER:
First I must say I am sorry about your loss.
No, you must be the registered owner to get a license plate. You must get the vehicle legally transferred to you.
You may want to try contacting your local court house. You most likely may need to be declared executor of your father's estate to proceed any further. You might want to try this in New York first to save yourself another trip to Michigan. However you may need to do this in Michigan.
Another alternative if you have decent credit is to get a signature loan in your name to pay off the balance ot the truck. This would get the lien removed from the title and then transferring the title should be the same procedure as was the motorcycles.

QUESTION:
Super pocket bike made legal in PA...can it be done if i get a good bike?
If the bike has headlights, high beams and low beams and turn signals and a horn it should be able to be registered as a LSV low speed vehicle.
it can be registered for street use in many states. Most of our customers who have wanted to register these bikes for street use have been able to do so. You may need to add a license plate holder and/or rear-view mirrors, or other minor modifications. These items are inexpensive, can be found at most local scooter or motorcycle shops, and are easily attached via simple modifications.
All vehicle(s) come with a factory standard Certificate of Origin (Manufacturer Statement of Origin/MSO) which may be used for registration. We also include an official MSO for registration, with no extra charge for this service.
^^From what the site says ..the bigger super bike that i am getting, not to be confused with the smaller 50 cc models should be able to be street legal.
These are the rules in Florida...but i am in PA hopefully it is the same.
0. Have a motorcycle licence ( for a 110cc it is classified as a motorcycle)- you could try to say to say its 50cc then you dont need one but the certificate will probably say its 110cc.. You will not be required to bring the bike in to the DMV or ever do a riding test for anyone.
1. Headlights, taillights, sideview mirrors, signals, licence plate holder
2. Helmet- if you plan on not buying insurance ( you will defenetally not want to pay the price of the bike each month just on insurance r u nuts!!)
If you dont use helmet, you must have insurance. Cops can pull u over if you ride on streets where there will defenetally be cops, local neihborhood driving you can do without helmet with no cops near.)
3. Bring your factory standard Certificate of Origin (Manufacturer Statement of Origin/MSO) it is the important paperwork the bike comes with
4. Bring your ID
5. Bring $ it will cost .00 to put a Licence plate on it which includes the years stickers ( you will have to pay extra each year for new stickers)
6. Bring another .75 to get the bike registered
7, Bring some more money of 7% extra of the original purchase price. ( so if bike was bought for 0.00 you will have to pay extra .00 at the DMV.)
FOLLOWING THESE STEPS WILL GUARANTEE YOU TO LEGALLY RIDE ON ANY of the X series Mid Bikes( with minor modifications) on PUBLIC ROAD ( except highway)
so a total of about at least 0.00 of registration fees, not including your modification fees is all thats required to ride the bike legally.
BTW: it may sound like im answering my own question but im not about to drop 700 bucks on a super bike and not be able to ride it.
thanks.

ANSWER:
Maybe.
In searching through Penndot's info, it looks like you might.
You will not spend 0, it will be more. You must at least change the tires.
It will be classed as a motorcycle. It must pass a motorcycle safety inspection. You must be insured and licensed to operate a motorcycle.
I'm sure the insurance will be an issue.
I still don't understand why people insist on running these toys on the street. You will do all that's needed to ride a motorcycle, pay extra to modify a new machine, and still not really have anything worth riding.
Why not buy a real motorcycle instead?
Easier. No extra mods. Repair support. Etc.
Dual exhaust on a single?

QUESTION:
Working permit applying for PR and coverage for paternity benefits?
Hi. I am a PR card holder in Toronto, on the process of getting divorced and getting the divorce certificate in about 4-6 weeks. My fiance (works and lives in Edmonton) and I are expecting a child, currently 4 months pregnant. My fiance is on a skilled worker visa (pays taxes and gets insurance through work). we want to get married asap as soon as I receive the divorce cert., I will sponsor him under spousal sponsorship right after applying for marriage certificate.
Couple of Questions:
1. Once we apply for permanent resident for my fiance how long is the wait?
2. During this time chances are, I maybe having the baby, will he be eligible for paternity?
3. And while on paternity, we are also hoping that by the end of paternity the PR application may have arrived.
I wanted to allocate for the lenght of all applications needed, my fiance really wants to step up on his role as father and bond with baby before and after birth.
Please let me know if there is anything else I needed to know that surrounds this matter. Thank you.
I actually found out from CRA that as long as you are paying taxes or cpp or ei (which my fiance is) are automatically taken off your pay cheque then you are eligible to take paternity because you are paying your share. It also doesn't matter whether or not your are on student visa, work permit, pr card holder you are still able to take paternity even if not married as long as you are the biological parent.
Furthermore, we are not trying to manipulate or scam the system, this is why I have posted these questions to have a good understanding of the process and to do it the proper way.
-
ANSWER:
Your fiance will not be eligible for EI Paternity benefits as he is neither a citizen or PR of Canada. In order to sponsor him, either before or after you marry, you will have to prove that you can provide financially for him in the time it takes for him to receive status. He will not be able to work, as he is here under the skilled worker visa program and cannot work for anyone other than the employer he has (and can do so only under this type of visa).
There is no easy way for him to obtain PR status. Immigration is highly suspicious of those under skilled worker visas getting Canadian residents pregnant to stay in the country. It is highly probable that your fiance will have to return to his home country when his skilled worker visa expires and will have to start the sponsorship from his home country.
It could take several years for him to obtain PR status through your sponsorship.

QUESTION:
Is this a Real Tax?
Moving Taxe?
If you have your out-of-state title, you'll need:
Your out-of -state title
Proof of insurance i n owner's name
A safety inspection certificate from an inspection station in Texas
Your lien holders name and address (if this applies)
If you DON'T have your title, you'll need:
Your current registration from previous state
Proof of insurance in owner's name
A safety inspection certificate from an inspection station in Texas
Your lien holders name and address (if this applies)
FEES: -title application
-new resident Registration
fees vary based on vehicle year, type, and or weight
-
ANSWER:
I am a licensed car dealer in Texas......here is what it is. It isn't really a "moving tax". You will have to get your car registered and inspected in Texas. You will first get a greensheet and inspection sticker from your local gas station. Then you take it down to the tax office and register the car in Texas. They do charge a fee to transfer it to Texas. You don't pay any new sales tax. You can even do a "registration purposes only" option which allows you to register the car in Texas with your greensheet without surrendering your title. The is pretty much bogus, but everything else is normal. There is a way around the though.......you can "give" the car to someone (like use your middle name instead of your first name), make it look like a transfer is taking place......use your greensheet and do a full title transfer like you gave it away. Then you will only pay the plus your license fees.

QUESTION:
Is this Bank red tape gone mad?
I have banked with the same small market town branch of one of the UK's biggest banks for the last 15 years, and am known to the senior tellers who greet me by name when i go in there. Today i went in to the branch with my wife to carry out a simple - i thought - procedure. To change my own current account from my own name only over to a joint one with my wife of the last 30 years included as joint account holder. I was warned that my wife would need to take in identification so we took along our marriage certificate, my wife's photo id bus pass and her passport (which expired 3 years ago and which due to health reasons she will not be renewing.
The customer service (?) officer told us that these items were not acceptable as id. Did my wife have a photo card driving licence? NO, she has never driven. Has she got a current passport, no only the expired one as due to her health she will not be travelling abroad again. Any letter from a government department confirming her eligibility to any kind of benefits, no we do not claim benefits of any kind.
Our joint council tax bill would be acceptable to confirm that she lives where we say she lives but there is nothing else we have that they accept as proof of her ID. Oh, we have her Doctors/Hospital registration cards. No good, they are only acceptable for an under 18 year old. Well we have her national insurance card - you guessed it, no that is not an acceptable proof of her ID unless she is under 18.
We have a letter from the department of work and pensions telling her that she is entitled to x amount state pension (we have deferred claiming as i am still working). Bingo, that will do. Oops, no it wont, it has to be less than 4 months old.
Now by this time i am very hot under the collar as you will imagine, and even more so when the lady explained that since the twin towers terrorist disaster security precautions have had to be tightened up!
Can any one out there explain to me just how by any logic at all anti terrorist measures have any thing what so ever to do with adding my wife, a lady of mature years [who has not changed her identity since her passport expired] to my bank account as a joint holder? I for one cannot see any reason what so ever how the one affects the other!
Also, how come a letter from DWP confirming her elegibility to a pension proves her ID when a passport with her photo in it - despite expiring 3 years ago - and a current photo id Concessionary over 60's bus pass issued by our local authority does not confirm her ID ?
Am i a voice in the wilderness thinking this is bank beaurocracy at it's most idiotic level?
-
ANSWER:
Colin, you are not a voice in the wilderness and I am surprised at the comments already posted to you.I think that due to money laundering and political correctness the UK has lost its way in the systems department. I have a much worse tale to tell than yours but I will not bore you with it here. You are on my network list,so perhaps I can advise you privately. I think you should complain to the ombudsman. At least you should get a minimum of £100 for the discourtesy and stupidity of the bank staff. Maybe, if you remind them that your taxes are keeping them afloat, they will take a more humble approach.
My final solution was to escape to Switzerland where they have centuries old banking traditions that serve the customer. (Even with black money). The UK is well and truly going down the toilet with the banks first into the soil pipe. (Followed by the previous respondents).

QUESTION:
the mother inlaw, the husband and my child?
im getting worried now can my mother in law make me return to a country which i am not a citizen or green card holder (anymore) with my daughter who is a british citizen like me. my husband does not care but for him she is sending me evil emails saying i got preg on purpose etc. it is not my husband but because he cant stand up to his mom who still treats him like he can't think for himself and is still treats him like she is married more to him than me. i left and returned to the uk because of the way my husband treated me and because my mil didn't really like me all that much and i realised that if i had my bby in the usa because my mil is so insecure i would never see my family again, i think her plan was my conidtional greencard ran out in december 2009 and my husband made sure that we had nothing in joints name's so we had no evidence to renew the greencard i think their plan was to get me deported from the country and take my child away from me. but i left the usa in june surrendered the greencard in august had my baby in october 7 weeks early. my mil has not sent a card or a gift to the baby and my husband has not been in touch to see how we are but my mil seems to think i have to return to the usa with her grandchild because her dad is an american. if my daughters dad cared so much about the baby or even me don,t you think he would be here. i have told my mil that she can see her grandchild but she will have to get on plane to do so i have said i will send pics keep her up todate with her progress but this does not seem to be good enough for her, she asked for my daughters birth certificate so she get a social security number and put her on her dad work medical insurance ( who was threatening to tke me off because he didn,t like have to pay for it) im not going to send her anything but someone said under the hague convention i could have to take her to the usa, but my daughter is not a us citizen nor a dual national is there anything i can do to protect my daughter
-
ANSWER:
You state that your mother in law planned to get you deported and now you fear that she plans to force you to return. Can you see the contradiction here? Far more likely is that she is trying to find a way to get your daughter to the US and away from you. Believe me, there are many cases every year of parents absconding with a child who never comes back and the US is one of the places they go to. Without a divorce and custody order, it will not even be considered a kidnapping.
The story of medical insurance is total nonsense, of course you can see straight through that. Not only would US medical insurance not be useful in the UK but there is no need for a social security number. Most American children don't get one of these until they are older and all are insured at birth.
No, her agenda is to get your daughter a US passport. This is something you need to be very alert to as she will not be able to kidnap your daughter without a passport.
Unfortunately, getting an American passport will not be hard. Your husband will easily be able to get a certified copy of the birth certificate if he has her name and a date of birth. Then he can write up an affidavit stating that you are out of the country, go in with a baby of a similar age to a passport office and it will be done.
I recommend you get in touch with the US Embassy in London and alert them to a possible fraudulent application. This will put a block on their database so that no passport can be issued to your child at any location.

QUESTION:
I have several legal questions?
My boyfriend and I were together 7 years in the state of PA. We were engaged and to be married this year. He died suddenly and unexpectedly on Jan 19 of this year. He had finaced a truck in his name and with a friend/boss. He paid the truck in full of 2010 and his friend was supposed to be taken off the title as lien holder. He has not and is now claiming the truck as his. Is there anything I can do to pursue this? I need his title so that I can go on with things. The bill, insurance and registration were all in his name. I also several death certificates in my possession. What can I do?
There are no family members that I know of since he's been on his own since a teenager. He really doesnt have any assests except for his truck and whatever we had in the house. There is no one handling an estate for me, I am alone on this. I was hoping I had some rights, even one, since we had been together since 2003 in PA.
David had no one is his life for many years except for me.
